Garmin Connect IQ App

Course-day pacing, nutrition reminders, and live tracking on your Garmin Edge.

Pair Your Garmin Device

Pairing connects your Garmin Edge to your WattsWise account. Once paired, you can load course plans, get personalized pacing targets, and participate in live tracking — all from your handlebars.

1
Install the WattsWise app on your Garmin
Sideload the WattsWise .prg file onto your Edge device via USB (copy to GARMIN/APPS/), or install from the Connect IQ Store once published.
2
Generate a pairing code
Go to Settings → Integrations → Garmin Device and click Generate Pairing Code. A 6-digit code will appear with a 5-minute countdown.
3
Enter the code on your Garmin
On your Edge, open the WattsWise app and long-press the SELECT button to open the menu. Choose Pair Account, then use the UP/DOWN buttons to enter each digit. Press SELECT to confirm each digit.
4
Confirmation
Once all 6 digits are entered, your Garmin will exchange the code for a secure device token. You'll see your name in the Garmin console output, and the Settings page will show “Garmin paired” with the date.
Pairing is a one-time setup. Your Garmin stays connected for 90 days. If the token expires, simply generate a new pairing code and repeat.

Create a Course

Races in WattsWise are built from GPX course files. Upload a GPX, and WattsWise automatically segments the course by terrain type, calculates elevation profiles, and generates personalized pacing and nutrition plans based on your FTP and weight.

1
Upload a GPX file
Go to Race and click New Course. Give it a name, pick a date, and upload the GPX file of the course. The course will be parsed and segmented automatically.
2
Review the course
The course detail page shows an interactive map, elevation profile, and segment breakdown. You can adjust the number of segments using the segment count slider if the automatic segmentation doesn't match your needs.
3
Generate a course plan
Click Generate Course Plan. WattsWise calculates target power for each segment based on your FTP, gradient, and chosen effort level. It also creates a nutrition schedule with specific foods and timing. Adjust the effort slider to see how targets change.
4
Set visibility
Scroll down to Share & Access. Every race gets an auto-generated 6-character race code. Choose:
Private
Only you and invited users can access. Requires a paired Garmin to load on-device.
Public
Anyone with the race code can see the course preview on their Garmin. Pairing is required for full pacing data.

Load a Course on Your Garmin

Once a race exists and your Garmin is paired, loading the race on-device takes seconds.

1
Find the race code
On the course detail page, the 6-character code is shown in the Share & Access section (e.g. RX7K2M). Copy it or memorize it.
2
Enter the code on your Garmin
Open WattsWise on your Edge, long-press SELECT to open the menu, and choose Enter Course Code. Use UP/DOWN to scroll through characters (A-Z, 2-9) and SELECT to confirm each one.
3
Course loads automatically
After entering all 6 characters, the Garmin fetches the race data from WattsWise. If you're paired, you get the full experience:
Map + PrizesCourse waypoints, prize locations, competitor positions
PacingTarget power per segment, cadence, gradient, remaining distance
NutritionFeed alerts, carb/fluid/caffeine tracking against plan
LeaderboardPrize claim status, online rider count
If you enter a public race code without pairing, you'll see a read-only preview with course stats. Pair your account to unlock personalized pacing targets and live tracking.

Invite Others to Your Course

Share your race with friends or club mates. There are two ways:

1
Email invitations
On the course detail page under Share & Access, enter email addresses and click Invite. Each invitee receives a link to accept or decline. Once accepted, they can load the race on their Garmin using the same race code.
2
Share link
Copy the share link and send it via any channel (WhatsApp, text, email). You can toggle whether the link requires login. Recipients click the link, create an account if needed, and the race appears in their course list.
For private races, only the owner and accepted invitees can load the full course plan on their Garmin. Everyone else sees a 403 “Not invited” response.

Free Ride Mode

The WattsWise Garmin app works even without a race loaded. In free ride mode, the app displays real-time speed, distance traveled, heading, and GPS coordinates. GPS starts immediately on app launch — no configuration needed.

To switch from a loaded race back to free ride, open the menu (long-press SELECT) and choose Clear Course.

Troubleshooting

"Pair account first" on Garmin
The race is private and your Garmin isn't paired. Go to Settings > Garmin Device and generate a pairing code.
"Not invited to this race"
The race owner hasn't invited you. Ask them to invite your email address from the course detail page.
"Course not found"
Double-check the 6-character code. Codes are case-sensitive and use A-Z + 2-9 only (no 0, O, 1, I, or L).
Pairing code expired
Codes are valid for 5 minutes. Generate a new one from Settings > Garmin Device.
Garmin shows "No GPS Signal"
The app starts in free ride mode while acquiring satellites. Move outdoors and wait 15-30 seconds for a GPS fix.
